“零”的表达方法

   阿拉伯数字“0”（“零”）在现代英语中有不同的口语形式：
　　1． 1）naught（尤其是英国英语），用语数学方面，如：
　　0.6 is usually read “naught point six”, and .06 is usually read “point naught six”.
　　0.6通常读作“零点六“，而.06则常读作“点零六”。
　　One minus one leaves naught.
　　一减一等于零。
　　2） naught 用于文学语言，表示nothing, 如：
　　All his work came to naught when the storm destroyed his crops.
　　暴风雨摧毁了他的庄稼，他所有的努力都付诸东流。

 
　　2. zero 用于数学和温度计的零度，如：
　　How much is zero times twenty-five?
　　二十五乘零的积是多少？
　　The thermometer fell to zero last night.
　　温度计昨夜降至零度。
　　Zero degrees Fahrenheit equals 17.8 degrees below zero Centigrade.
　　华氏零度等于摄氏零下十七度八。
　　3． 0（0像字母o），用于电话号码或编了号的事物，或当数目字分开来逐个往下说的时候，如：
　　Dial 8050（读作eight-o-five-o）, please.
　　请拨八零零五。
　　No.506（读作five-o-six）, Friendship Hotel.
　　友谊饭店五零六号房间
　　4． nil（尤其是英国英语）, nothing, 用于队际间的比赛，如：
　　The result of the game was 3-0（读作three nil）.
　　比赛结果是三比零。
　　Brazil won 4-0（读作four to nothing）.
　　四比零，巴西队获胜。
　　The score at half-time was two-nil(or two-nothing).
　　上半场的比分是二比零。
　　My knowledge of the subject is practically nil.
　　我在这方面的知识几乎等于零。
　　5． Love用于比赛，特别是网球、乒乓球及类似的比赛中。该用法来源于法语词l’oeuf，意思是“蛋”，大概因为0形状像蛋，如：
　　Five-love, your service
　　五比零，你发球。
　　No score, love all.
　　零比零。
　　Becker leads 15-love.
　　贝克十五比零领先。
